St. Mary's School (Wantage)

St Mary's School is an Anglican private girls' school formerly located in Wantage, Oxfordshire. Fees around £20,000 a year.

St Mary's was initially to be re-sited just outside of the town of Wantage. The buildings were purchased for around £15m by the property developer Anton Bilton and his company, Raven Mount, in 2005. The move was said to be necessary to increase the size of the school and modernise facilities.

The school is now merging with the Heathfield School in Ascot, to form a new school, which will be known as Heathfield St Mary's. The St Mary's girls currently in the middle of their examination courses will complete these at the Wantage site, retaining most of the same teachers for the full year. The Wantage site will then be closed at the end of the summer term 2007, when it will be developed. The other years will be moving to the Ascot site at the end of the summer term 2006.

Heathfield will be using the money obtained from the sale of the Wantage site to build state of the art facilities at the Ascot site.

Most girls are finding alternative schools and will not be moving to Heathfield in sept 2007. It has been reported that a maximum of 20 girls will be going to the new school out of the 250+ that were at st mary's wantage.

As of 2006 Frances King is the Headmistress and Rebecca Appleyard is Deputy Headmistress.
