Wanganui City College

Wanganui City College is a mid-sized co-educational year 9 to 13 state secondary school with hostel accommodation. Our west coast North Island location offers all the advantages of a semi-rural region yet is only a short distance from our nations capital.

We want to be a caring, effective school which provides all students with the tools for life long learning. We want our students to develop pride in themselves and their school, develop a respect for themselves and others, and to achieve to their potential while enjoying being part of our school.

Wanganui City College has an 82 year history of educating students from other cultural backgrounds. We have had students from Fiji, Nauru, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Bahrain, Taiwan, China, South America, Niue, Cook Islands, Samoa, The Solomons, Sarawak, America, Switzerland, the USA, Brazil, Germany, Britain, Indonesia, India, Argentina and Denmark. Hundreds of overseas students have been educated at the college and have gone onto successful careers.

City College prepares students for Polytechnic and University education and has a long academic tradition of producing excellent scholars. Students prepare for NCEA Levels 1 and 2, Unit Standards and University Bursary/Scholarship Examinations in over 30 subjects. Few colleges offer such a wide range of activities, such outstanding facilities and most importantly such a well qualified staff.

Wanganui City College is a challenging, exciting and supportive place where students from all parts of the world feel valued and respected. There is a senior staff member in charge of overseas students and special programmes are run for overseas students when necessary.

Overseas students can board in our comfortable and well supervised hostel close to the college or we can arrange for a student to stay with a New Zealand family.
