Westbridge Residential School

The Westbridge Programme provides a wrap-around model for the students and their families enabling them to recognize their strengths, resources, resiliency and problem solving abilities, in order to increase their social, educational, and economic outcomes.
The specialist school is to cater for the needs of children who display significant emotional, behavioural, social and learning difficulties that can not be managed within their own community.

The Westbridge School and residential facilities are situated in Massey West Auckland on well established grounds including a gymnasium, bike track, obstacle course and open spaces.
There are 32 places available, 24 in the residential setting and 8 in the Centre for Extra Support day school.

The purpose of Westbridge Residential School is to provide a safe and secure environment for students who are in Years 3-8 levels of schooling.

Westbridge operates three types of residential programmes; Seven day , Five day and Centre for Extra Support-Day students. There are 3 cottages on site, Te Puna O Te Aroha, Pohutukawa and Puawai, each accommodating eight children. One cottage specifically caters for seven day children who live outside the Auckland metropolitan area; the other two cottages accommodate five day children who live within the Auckland metropolitan area.
Each room is alarmed and has a solid wall divider which enables two children to have a space each.

The residential programme is structured, planned and supervised by the residential team of each cottage and within a larger team when the afternoon programme is in place. During the daily afternoon programme your child has the opportunity to practice small peer group skills such as negotiation and sharing. Your child attends a social skills programme twice daily within their own cottage.

The students reside seven days a week at Westbridge, returning home for statutory holidays, school holidays and planned home visits. Weekend home visits may be scheduled with your child’s ATWC Social Worker, Residential Manager and Programme Director. Parents / caregivers are to arrange transport to and from Westbridge and are to return children to their cottage after 2.30pm on a Sunday.
